Is PR one way to beat the credit crunch for the industry?

I only ask because they can be the most annoying people in the world, or altenatively one of the most helpful tools of a journalist.

However, in the past few months I have noticed a lot of event companies taking on a professional pr company to generate more and more publicity for their companies. With the rise of this website the prs and the companies that they are representing are seeing tangible results.

Whose idea was it to shut the Victoria line down on one of the biggest football weekends in London?

Like digging up major roads during rush hour or non-working pensioners taking the early morning appointments at doctor surgeries, shutting one of the most reliable tube lines on the weekend of a massive football match between two of London’s biggest clubs at the national stadium in the capital makes no sense whatsoever.

How successful will RSVP 09 be? And who is going?

After the recent success of International Confex I am expecting RSVP 09 to be just as busy as corporates, agencies, suppliers and venues head down to the Business Design Centre to see what the creative event industry is up to and how it is coping with the current economic crisis.

Are we heading back to the bad days of venue entry?

During the past seven days I have been to two venues that have employed tactics I thought, or rather hoped had been eradicated.

It doesn’t always have to happen in London

I know people are lazy and that attracting guests to a venue for an event outside of London is tough, but it can be done. Last night Thorpe Park launched new ride Saw. Before and after guests got the opportunity to ride the new rollercoaster, which in my opinion is now the best in the UK, they were treated to canapes, champagne and entertainment in the theme park’s temporary structure Lake View. Not only was it busy, but genuinely loved the whole evening.

Has anyone been to Confex yet?

If you haven’t you must be one of the few in the industry that hasn’t. I spent the morning at the Events 2012 and Beyond conference before visiting the main show floor during lunchtime. I must confess that I expected it to be quite empty, what with the credit crunch and the current economic situation. I know you are probably thinking that this high level of footfall was only due to the lunchtime rush, but it remained at the same busy level until at least 5.30pm.

Did any other UK-based companies have a hand in any of the Oscars parties?

Bamboo created the cocktails, but I am sure there are some other UK event companies involved in the Vanity Fair party, or even in producing the main ceremony?

It has been a great night for British success, so come on let us know if you were involved.
